By Plane

(The "By Plane" section is designed primarily for people coming from North America.)

Villa Pisak is located 25 miles from Split, 100 miles from Dubrovnik, and 380 miles from Venice.

In my opinion, if you are flying from the US, the most cost effective way is to fly into Venice (main airport is Marco Polo). Click here for a list of flight prices from various US cities.

You can either fly into Venice directly, or try to find a cheap ticket into London and take Ryanair (only $100 for a London Stanstead-Venice-London Stanstead round trip) or EasyJet (only $139 for a London Gatwick - Venice Marco Polo - London Gatwick round trip).

From there, you can either take a train, take a bus, or rent a car. Also, you can ride with me. I will rent a mini van and make several trips from Venice to Villa Pisak. Check the Schedule page for details.

By Train

It is certainly possible to travel by train from elsewhere in Europe to Zagreb, Pula, Rijeka and Split, but in the case of the latter, you'll definitely have to travel via Zagreb. If you're travelling from northeast Italy - Venice and Trieste - this can add on quite a few hours to your journey, in which case it is better to travel by bus.

A great website to research train travel is Die Bahn. You can search for timetables for practically any journey in Europe, including journeys internal to Croatia.

By Bus

There are coach services from all nearby European countries - Slovenia, Italy, Austria and Germany, Czech Republic and Switzerland - into Croatia. You'll certainly be able to travel by bus to Zagreb - Zagreb Bus Terminal has a website on which you can check arrival timetables - although there are also direct international bus services to towns along the coast (Porec, Rovinj, Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik).

Travelling by coach is probably one of the cheapest ways of reaching Croatia, although perhaps not the quickest or the most comfortable! (Although we've had several emails praising Croatian bus services!)
